What Foam Do I Need?

Who knew there was so many foam options to choose from. Our deluxe medium upholstery foam is the most popular option, it is blue and 95% of our orders are for this. When choosing foam density for a replacement cushion, consider the following factors:

1. Intended use: Determine the purpose of the cushion. Is it for a sofa, chair, outdoor furniture, or a specific application like a boat cushion? Different uses may require varying levels of support and durability. For example, outdoor cushions may need higher density foam to withstand exposure to the elements.

2. Comfort and support: Consider your preferences for cushion firmness. If you prefer a softer and more plush cushion, you might opt for lower density foam. For those who prefer firmer support, higher density foam would be suitable. Keep in mind that the right balance between comfort and support is essential for a pleasant sitting experience.

3. Body weight: Your body weight can affect how the foam compresses and provides support. Heavier individuals typically benefit from higher density foam to prevent excessive sinking and maintain proper support. Lighter individuals may find lower density foam more comfortable.

4. Cushion thickness: Thicker cushions often require higher density foam to prevent bottoming out and maintain adequate support over time. Thinner cushions can use lower density foam, provided they still offer sufficient comfort and support.

5. Durability: Consider the expected lifespan of the cushion. Higher density foam tends to be more durable and resistant to sagging and compression over time. If you anticipate heavy use or want a long-lasting cushion, choosing a higher density foam would be advisable. Should you wish to have a different foam we have a guide which provides further information. If you have any questions feel free to contact us.
